Nigeria’s Folashade Abugu yesterday brought joy to Team Nigeria’s contingent to the ongoing African Athletics Championship holding in Morocco, after winning gold in the women’s 400m final race.
Following the illustrious footsteps of Commonwealth Games sprints double champion and African women fastest runner Blessing Okagbare, Abugan last night took her other contenders to the cleaners in the keenly contested race watched by a horde of cheering fans in the Moroccan city.
And speaking after crossing the finish line first, Abugan said she was delighted to win after coming third four years ago.
“ I am so happy to win because four years ago I won a bronze medal but this time around, I am the African champion. This season has been a great one for me as I became national champion, won a bronze at the IAAF World Relays and silver at the Commonwealth Games. I am going to train harder ahead of the Continental Cup”, she said.
