Retired prison workers have appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to urge authorities of the Nigeria Prison Service to begin payment of their retirement benefits.
According to the aggrieved pensioners, allowances owed them include disengagement allowance, arrears of personal allowance and 2000-2007 COMPASS arrears for Pencom retirees.
Chairman of the prison retirees, Idebuwa Akpofure, in an open letter to President Jonathan said the non-payment of the allowances has aggravated their financial predicaments coupled with the bottlenecks of the 2004 Pension Act.
