In a bid to open up rural communities across the country the Federal Government has launched the second phase of the Rural Access and Mobility Project tagged “RAMP-2” in Abuja.
The Project will construct or rehabilitates initial 800km of rural roads and 65 numbers of river crossings in the four states financed by the World Bank and the French Development Agency at the cost of $242.71 million.
The project which was launched under the Federal Project Unit of the federal ministry of agriculture and rural development is for a period of six years.
Minister of agriculture and rural development Dr Adewumi Adesina said at the event that the current drive to treat agriculture as a business will not be achieved if the country does not take strategic and concerted approaches that will address issues such as access and mobility particularly in the rural areas.
The benefiting states are Adamawa, Niger, Enugu and Osun.
Dr. Adesina lamented that “the effect of the huge deficiency in rural access continues to stare us all in the face as majority of our small holder farmers are still having herculean tasks accessing inputs.”
